There are very few true horsemen who do not treat stallions with respect. While male horses are generally larger than females, it is not the size of the stallions with engenders so much respect, but rather the sense of power that they convey. This is often combined with a strong, willful nature which makes them totally unsuitable for amateur riders who just want to amble quietly along the beach. Stallions represent a challenge!
Horses like this wonderful ¡°stallion¡± have long played a major role in human history. In the ¡°Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences¡±, British scientists have claimed that all modern horses are the descendants of around 77 wild mares. Other scientists had already begun to suspect this theory, following research carried out several years previously proving that wild horses lining 12000 years ago in Alaska were genetically similar to their modern-day counterparts. Using techniques such as DNA analysis, it seems very likely that we will soon be able to demonstrate that all horses have the same ancestors, although the question of how they spread all over the globe is still to be resolved. The domestication of horses by humans took place in much more recent history.
The oldest definitive evidence of tamed horses is a 4000-year-old chariot burial site in the steppes of Eastern Europe, and we also have evidence of horse-drawn chariots in both Greece and China around 800 years later. It seems that then, as now, the breeding of horses was very important. Today, stallions with good bloodlines are often used exclusively for breeding and their offspring can be found throughout the world. There are foals from European stallions in Brazil and form Arab stallions in England, American foals in China and Polish horses in the USA.
